One of the penalties for refusing to participate in politics is that you end up being governed by your inferiors- Plato

In this blog post we will discuss about Why Politics is Necessary for a Common Man. Now a days everyone had an idea about politics with misconceptions.

Why Politics is Necessary for a Common Man-Read It

These is what we know from history of the words supposedly uttered by the famous Greek philosopher Plato, part of Ancient Greek trio of Socrates & Aristotle. Supposedly because what is what we told. But what is unmistakable is the wisdom of this quote. It is plain to voters and citizens and groups that are based on organization and shared interests, that motives of the organization are best served of two key elements are present: a method to arrive at most consensus, and a leadership that is trusted to bring about this consensus.

Now consensus on any topic is hard to come by. Just look around your neighborhood and your work place. Each individual or groups of individual have and will always have divergent views on a variety of issues and topics. Afterall that is part of human nature, which comes ability to think and form an opinion.

But let us assume that your opinion is something you don’t want to push or forge ahead with. And if the final outcome from deliberations can have the potential to hurt your interests, shouldn’t you be ready for such eventuality? Because then you can activate your voice, share it during deliberations, and thus steer it around the way you think your interests are best served.

Now democracy or governments work on the premise of greater good for all, and of sharing and equality and equity. Besides the inherent value systems that each national inherits or adopts.

The way ahead to achieve a decision on what and how the greater good can be achieved is via what constitutes democracy, or to be specific elections, voting, agenda creation, and even public referendum.

The crux of the problem lies here- as individuals, issues of bread and butter and employment are what we grapple much of our waking life. So, for us to decide on or suggest our voice on any topic that will be taken by the government or Assembly or Parliament or even your Apartment Association, it needs you to be informed about the ifs and buts of the issue. We may not have the time or the inclination.

So, that is where politics comes in, in the person of politician. This person is career person whose life is spent in public affairs and in bringing together people on a common platform. And that requires a particular set of skills.

But to make that person more effective, the average person needs to just be aware and questioning. And we can be aware and questioning if we take a small bit of interest in politics, and at least devote some time to ask our representatives the questions that impact us. In that way, the power is in the hands of the average citizen, and doesn’t go to the politician. Hence politics is and should be an important element of our consciousness and public duty.
